In a totally surprise move, my dad is selling the prize-winning car he has worked on for twenty years. The eBay listing reads like a gruff, sad farewell.
My dad is a bit of a horse-trader of cars -- once, when he was selling a lovely red chopped and slammed '39 Chevy (if I remember correctly), the buyers asked my sisters and me if we'd miss the car. We shrugged. Cars came and went almost yearly. The Espada did not. It is largely responsible for my being a "hot-rod orphan" all those years. In price, it is probably going to reach the equivalent of a year of my undergraduate education shortly, or possibly pass that mark. (No, no, wait -- it hasn't even made reserve yet... this should be a long one.) It really was a hell of a car -- Dad ran it on rocket fuel, when he ran it at all. I believe it was the car we were doing over-the-speed-limit in one dark night in La Canada when Dad slammed on the brakes without warning, then pointed out there was a mouse crossing the road. Good eye, Dad. Goodbye, Espada.

I can't believe he's SELLING IT!!!! This makes me sad :(
It wasn't rocket fuel, it was aviation gas. Small difference as far as my nostalgic self is concerned; every now and then I used to sneak out to the garage and open a door on it to smell the gas/leather smell that was so particular to this car.
WAAAH!
How's about we pool our money/retirement funds/firstborn children and make an offer on it? Gillie? Ariel? Who's with me?

You've gotta be effing kidding me. I already lost my father to this car, I won't lose my children to it, too. No, instead they will lose me to whatever hobby, occupation, or other Type-A behavior I choose to fall into at the time.
Cars come and cars go, gypsy sister. You know that.
I think we should get a Cutler or Durff to buy it. Then at least it would stay in the family ;P

It seems only apt that I would post here, as I am the recent purchaser of said Espada. I SWEAR I will take good care of it, and if you are in the Pasadena area I invite you to pay it a visit (and smell that smell, which is indeed unique).
As you can imagine, it was your dad who referred me to this blog...but wait, there's more! I'm a professional game designer who's been doing console game design for a little over 10 years, and I was instantly fascinated by your dad's description of your work!
If you are interested in any kind of collaboration, or would just like to chat (and lament the loss of the car), please do contact me at mj@methodgames.com.
