This from the AP today:
"The Venezuelan crisis - combined with concerns about the likelihood of a U.S. attack on Iraq - propelled oil prices past $31 on Wednesday, the highest level in nearly three months."

Death, however, is not known to ride in on a pale pony. I think 31 was reaching for something more portentous, not realizing My Little Ponies role has powerful modern signifiers of...um...something.
